Cheer for Birthdays in December

Hello, everyone! It's Anything Goes week over at SP and Company. Here is my take on another birthday card using the Gill Roberts Cheerleader stamp. I changed it up this time by using the Certified Awesome stamp and die tools for the sentiment.

My neighbor is a Cheer Mom for her teenage daughter's cheerleading group, Fame. I've been making cheerleading birthday cards for her for a while but it's nice to change it up a bit so you don't get bored with the same design all the time. It's also the first card I've made using the Certified Awesome stamp set. This is such a great set! I don't know why it's taken me so long to use it!

This is a topper card so the image hangs over the top fold of the card by 1-inch. I framed the cheerleader image with silver striped foiled cardstock and added some white gel pen stitch marks. The sentiment is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and SU Real Red inks and then die cut with the Certified Awesome die tools.

Of course, I colored the image with Copics:

Skin: E-00/11
Hair: E-53/55/57
Outfit: R-24/27/29; C-3/5
Pom-Poms: R-22/24

Don't be afraid to try new card designs with the same image. You can see my other cheerleading birthday cards here and here.  Which one is your favorite?

XOXO for Be Mine Week

Today I have a card to share with you for Be Mine theme week over at SP and Company. I used the XOXO sentiment from the Mini Card Creations II stamp set and the arrow from the Stitched Journaling Shape and Arrows die tool set.

The target (inspired by this pin) is made from several coordinating Spellbinders circles dies and a few are popped up with dimensionals. The heart and arrow were die cut from Cryogen White cardstock that was layered with a sheet of Scor-Tape and then glitterized with regal red micro fine glitter. You have to try this technique - it's super easy! I also added a few Christmas Red Stickles to each corner of the card to compliment the real red polka dot designer series paper.

Here's another close-up:

I hope you have an opportunity to join us this week.  Be sure to link up your projects on the SP Blog and check out the other Design Team projects for inspiration.

No Bones About It

Today, I have a new DT project to share for SP and Company's Love & Family Week using a December new release stamp set -- Puppy Surprise Valentine -- from the Tina Wenke Collection.  We have a Lab/Hound/Shepard mix who we rescued from the animal shelter when he was 6-months-old. Toby's been part of our family for over 9 years now.  He was our "kid" before we had kids and despite his obsession with anything paper -- tissues, paper towels, and even a few greeting cards here and there -- overall he's been a very good dog, with very few health issues.

For this card, I heat embossed the woodgrain background stamp with white embossing powder on basic black card stock.  The image is secured to real red card stock which is attached to the card base with dimensionals.  A few bright candy dots and white gel pen stitch marks frame out the main image and sentiment.  Here's another close-up:

I have to admit it's been tough for me to think about Valentine's Day with Christmas right around the corner.  These last few weeks have been especially hard on our family because Toby hasn't been feeling well. After two chest x-rays and multiple medications, we learned a week ago that he has Dilated Cardiomyopathy, or DCM, which is a form of heart disease in large breed dogs. Unfortunately, there isn't a cure and we're not sure how much more time we have with him.  I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that he makes it through the holidays.

During times like these, we have to appreciate each and every day.  I am so thankful for my family and friends who are helping us get through this difficult time.

Wild for Wetlands

Today I have a quick birthday card to share with you featuring the Wetlands stamp set by Stampin' Up. I got the idea for this card from Pinterest. On my card, I had to overlap the images because I cut the squares too large - each at 1-1/2 inches - for an A2 size card.

The images are stamped in Baked Brown Sugar and the sentiment is stamped in Coastal Cabana ink on Cryogen White cardstock. The square with the beach grass is popped up with dimensionals.

Can't Thank You Enough

Today I have a really cute thank you card to share with you guys that I can finally post.  I've been holding off because I wanted to make sure the recipient in Canada received it first.

I saw this pin where someone did something very similar using SU's Chalk Talk stamp set and matching framelits. Since my card was for a family friend in Canada, I didn't ink up the heart on the "I Can't Thank You Enough" stamp and replaced it with a red maple leaf.  Isn't it adorable?

Thanks for Always Being There

This past month being on the SP and Company Design Team has gone by so quickly! I've really enjoyed sharing some inspiration with you. I hope you've enjoyed seeing my projects. Here is my latest creation for New Release Week using the new Be Mine Couple stamp from the Tina Wenke Collection:

I asked my husband what stamp I should highlight this week.  He saw this stamp which immediately reminded him of our two kids.  It was a no brainer to create a card that showcases the bond between siblings.  My six-year old daughter is always giving her little brother a great big hug - whether he likes it or not.  At almost two years old, he looks up to her and of course follows her every lead!

They are colored with Copics in colors that coordinate with paper from the Carta Bella Devoted 6x6 paper pad.  I got this pad from the Clearance section in the SP&Co Store so it may no longer be in stock. I used SU Cherry Cobbler cardstock for the 5-1/4 inch square card base, accented with white gel pen stitch marks.  The sentiment is from the Friends Forever stamp set in the Gill Roberts Collection is also stamped in SU Cherry Cobbler ink. Here's another look:

If you have a sibling, what do you appreciate most about that person? I have a little sister myself, and I can't thank her enough for always being there for me. She's the best Sis ever!

Make sure to checkout the other projects created by the Design Team for New Release Week. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Elf Crossing Ahead

Since it's Easy Christmas Week over at SP&Co, I have another card to share with you that demonstrates a new technique using artist's chalk. I've had this small Sizzix embossing folder in my stash for a while. I embossed the elf onto a small piece of Cryogen White cardstock and then applied chalk to it with a Q-tip. It's secured to the front with dimensionals.

For the background, I alternated various lengths of green and red washi tape and added white gel pen stitch lines along the red perimeter. The "North Pole" sentiment is from the SP&Co Penguin Skating stamp set - Tina Wenke Collection which also coordinates with the Stitched Journaling Shape and Arrows Die Tools. The sentiment is stamped in SU Real Red to coordinate with the cardstock layers.

Here's another close-up:

A Message from Holly - Our Elf on the Shelf

We adopted a very important elf last year and now that we have the Christmas tree up and the house decorated for the holidays, our elf, Holly, decided to pay us a visit this week. My six-year-old daughter truly believes in Holly -- and when she asked me last tonight to make a card to put in her lunch box for school, I came up with this brilliant idea!

Kaitlyn had just finished her first day back at school after being off for an entire week for Thanksgiving. She was extremely hyper -- and we had to remind her several times that Holly was observing her behavior. I know she was just excited about seeing her friends again.

This is the card I put together for her to open during afternoon snack at school.

It's also the very first time I've designed something using these very cool treat cups from Stampin' Up.  I die cut the ornament on my Cricut using the Create-A-Critter 2 cartridge.

When I chose to use "elf poop" as the sentiment, I thought... why don't I make the inside message come from Holly.  I used alpha stamps from SP&Co so she couldn't decipher my handwriting. I also wanted to keep the message simple so she could read it herself at snack time.

It was a gentle reminder from Holly to "Be Good" this year. She's such a sweet little girl most of the time but last tonight was pure craziness. What do you think of this card? Do you have an elf in your family? What silly but brilliant ideas have you used with your elf on the shelf?  Please leave comments below.  I look forward to hearing from you!

From our house to yours, Merry Christmas.  I hope your hearts are filled with joy and love this holiday season.

Thanks for stopping by!

So Easy to Send Holiday Cheer

Hello, friends and followers of Haystack Cards! Today I have a holiday card to share with you that goes along with Easy Christmas Week over at SP&Co. This card is simple and sweet... and perfect for mass producing.

I used an SP In Color button in hula skirt green for the center of my die cut snowflake and attached a tiny white satin bow with glue dots. The white layer is popped up with dimensionals against the red card stock base. The "Sending Holiday Cheer" sentiment stamped in Memento Cottage Ivy is part of the Forest Friends Winter Post stamp set in the Gill Roberts Collection -- one of my favorite stamp sets by far!

When I was making this card for my design team project, I decided to whip up a few more to donate for a silent auction this Friday that benefits the Graduate Student Association at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, where I work.

Here are a few more photos:

And finally, the finished product... all wrapped up with a tag and all, ready for donation:
