Happy Birthday Stand-Up: The Stamps of Life DT Call

Hi, everyone! We have a couple of birthdays in our family coming up next week so I've been busy making invitations and cards - you name it!! Today's card features products from The Stamps of Life. I will also be entering this design in their DT call which happens to be hot off the press! Yay!!

I really enjoyed having time to play with my January card kit club goodies. These kits really are a great value and the patterned paper is perfect for us card crafters. If you haven't tried out this kit club, I highly recommend it!!

It was a breeze putting this card together with my Royal Stand-Ups Framelits. The patterned paper, coordinating cardstock and embellishments came with my card kit club shipment. I didn't want to cover up those gorgeous banners, so I added a single layer of a silver shimmery vellum for the sentiment and anchored it with two small black enamel dots. The word "happy" was die cut three times, layered, and adhered to the card front with a thick coating of glossy accents. It adds dimension and looks wet and shiny in person!!

The candles4birthday (with coordinating dies) and the morecandles2stamp sets are a favorite of mine and they are perfect for this occasion. If you didn't know any better, you may have thought that they came with the card kit club. They have such wonderful patterns and a variety of sentiments.

To finish off the card, I added another strip of vellum to the interior and stamped the candle border in primary colors to complement the card front. I kept the interior simple so it wouldn't take away from the card front when the card is propped up.

I really enjoyed sharing today's project with you and I'm keeping all fingers crossed that I have an opportunity to share more designs with you over the weeks to come. If your not already a kit club member, I do hope you will consider joining the club.  There are many options available and great benefits associated with becoming a club member.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Love Never Melts - Paper Smooches Guest Design Team Call

Hi everyone!! I've been on a roll this weekend playing with my Paper Smooches stamps and dies! This time I used the Cool Dudes stamp set and coordinating dies for my second entry in the Paper Smooches February Guest Design Team Call. You can also see my first entry here.

Cool Dudes

I was first inspired by this card on Glitter Me Silly. The stenciled rays beaming down on the snow couple seemed to go hand-in-hand with the sentiment. Can you tell that I extended the rays further down onto the card by repositioning the stencil? Masking off the adjacent rays kept the design clean so it looks like it was meant to be that way.

I really love how this design turned out! The pigment inks (buttercup and piggy bank) blended so nicely together. I didn't want the rays to overpower the softer colors of the snow people, however, I couldn't resist adding a few strands of bright pink twine to make the card pop!

Welcome to the World - Paper Smooches Guest DT Call

Hey, everyone! I'm very excited to share with you today my entry for the Paper Smooches February Guest Design Team Call.

I'm a new fan of Paper Smooches thanks to the wonderful designs and inspiration of Kay Miller and Laura Bassen, two design team members that I have been following for a while now. When you see their work, you just want to run out and buy up the store! I know I sure did!!

My card features the versatile Bitty Bungalows and Welcome Wagon stamp sets as well as the coordinating welcome word die. You can use these sets for so many occasions!!

I was also inspired by Deconstructed Sketch #184 for my layout but turned it upside down for a twist and Scrapmaster's Paradise Everyday Color Combo #1. Please see below for other challenges I am entering too.

First, I stamped the scene in Memento tuxedo black on a die cut stitched semi-circle, colored it with Copics and then applied ink (after masking the images) for a burst of color. The stitched tag is also inked and provides the perfect focal point for the scene and sentiment.

To add visual interest and dimension, the welcome word die is heat embossed in clear and the card base is covered in a white embossing paste zig zag stencil pattern. This is the first time I've used embossing paste and I can see where this technique could become addictive!!

I chose this particular sentiment because I plan to give the card to my cousins who became parents today as they welcomed their son into the world!! Congrats, Dave & Stacey!!!

Please keep your fingers crossed that I might be selected as a guest designer for Paper Smooches. It would be such an amazing opportunity since my DT term at Tiddly Inks just concluded in December.

I also hope my project brings a little happiness to your day and inspires you to try a new technique or challenge your creativity. Thanks for stopping by!!

Hugs,
Jen

Eeek! My Very First Publication!!

Hey everyone!! What a way to start off the new year! I have some fantastic news to share with you today!! I just learned that the steampunk Tiddly Inks card I submitted many months ago was actually selected for publication last week in Complete Cardmaking, a papercrafting magazine in the United Kingdom! I am so excited about this and can't wait to get my hands on a hard copy.

Yay! This is definitely a first for Haystack Cards and this discovery truly made my day today. Many thanks go out to Lou Daubney for sharing the photos with me! Now I just have to wait for my copy of the magazine to get here to see it in person - oh, the joys of shipping overseas!
